It won't make any difference if you get a pre-88 Mk3 if you are getting a manual JZA-70 front cut. You just bolt the crossmember from the jza-70 onto the Mk3. The only difference between the crossmembers is the engine mounts and everything will bolt up easily. The differences are subtle but significant depending on whether the mk3 is a turbo or not. I did my 1986.5 Mk3 from NA manual to a 1jz manual from a jza-70 front cut. The alternator and power steering pump is on a different sides on the 1jz, you need to enlarge a hole where the power steering and engine fan hydraulic pipes go through the front and thats the only cuts/changes to the body you should need. Plus if you use the jza-70 crossmember you get progressive power steering too. Of course there are heaps of little annoying things that are different, and the wiring was hard to sort out (but now you can just ask me!) but there were no problems mounting intercooler etc, even if there is no bolt on the NA body, there's usually just a little plug in the bolt hole and everything bolts in ok. I know Norbie said it's a walk in the park - but there is quite a bit to do and it took me 6-7 weekends to do the conversion (inc new shockers all round etc. Essentially if you transplant everything under the bonnet from the jza to the ma70 you'll be OK.
