straight through exhaust would refer to using straight through mufflers, which are basically just straight perforated tubes rather than the regular oem mufflers with baffled chambers.
A whole system will increase power a little, and depending on the muffler/s and resonator/s of choice, it could be very loud indeed, or it could be relatively quiet (but still louder than standard exhaust).
