biased99,
The 1uzfe is a very capable engine (like most Jap engines) the only way that they have restricted the engines output is through the exhaust and manifold. The engine itself is exactly the same as found in the same year Soarer,Celsior. The exception is that it doesn't have some of the exhaust gas venting valves that are found on the Soarer, Celsior. This does not effect performance and only aids the engine emmisions when starting the car from hot.
If you check the manifolds that come with a Crown engine you will understand what I mean by restrictive, the manifold on the Soarer is still very restrictive and has a slighly different design, I don't know if its bettter or worse - from looks I would say its slightly better.
In the US they can modify the standard ECU tuning but I suspect they are just playing with the HEX code in the ECU and aren't exactly sure of what they are doing. They could be changing the calibration data for one of the inputs or any number of things - who knows?? This is not the way to modify tuning.
With the standard mods of manifold and exhaust you should have no problems reaching 225KWs. At a guess with adding cams and porting you should be able to achieve close to the magic 100Hp/litre figure. On a side note a friend has just had extractors made for his Soarer. I'll find out the details as to who made them and post them.

The only thing you will need apart from the engine ECU and the transmission ECT are all the engine sensors, the gear selection switch from the auto shifter, the power economy switch and the OD switch. Although the last two can be bypassed or home made switches. You will need the gear selection switch found at the bottom of the auto shifter as it has the netral startswitch inbuilt also. You won't be able to use the traction control as you won't have all the sensors. If the ½ cut is complete then don't cut any wiring on the ECU and ECT looms until you have the diagrams. There are 2 wires which I am not sure about as I had to translate a dodgy japanese faxed diagram. So I may have to get someone to check them with a multimeter (I would do it myself but my engine and ecu and wiring harnesses are separated by about 30KMs).
Hopefully the diagrams will be on the web soon if not I can fax or post them to you.

You won't be able to use TRC anyway as the ½ cut doesn't come with all the sensors that are required. The Crown has a middle mount sump and the oil filter is moved down the engine towards the gearbox by metal oil lines.
My gearbox controller is made to use standalone ie with aftermarket engine management. I built this unit so that I could shift up and down gears with a push of a button. Basically you push one button the gearbox moves up a gear you push another button and you go down a gear. It also has outputs to display which gear you are in, you can use separate LEDs or a seven segment display. It will also give quicker shifts as opposed to the seamless changes that you will get in a Soarer or LS400.
I am currently designing a model to fit into Soarers. I have to make sure that it still works without causing any changes to the engine ECU.
