Apart from the usual intake and exhaust mods, there's nothing worthwhile you can do to a 5M-E that will cost less than an engine transplant. If you want a worthwhile performance boost, get rid of that boat anchor and put a decent engine in!
There is a twincam version of your engine, it's called the 5M-GE and it was fitted to the MA61 in just about every country except this one. My black Supra used to have one of these, and I can tell you it has MUCH more power than the 5M-E that used to be fitted to my blue Supra. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade!
Another popular swap is the 6M-GE, which is pretty much the same as the 5M-GE except it's 3.0 litres instead of 2.8. I have one of these in my black Supra now, and it has quite a bit more poke than the 5M-GE; it's especially noticeable at low to medium engine speeds. They're rated at 190hp stock, which is a very decent upgrade from the 120hp 5M-E!
Both the 5M-GE and 6M-GE will slot into your engine bay with minumum fuss. If you get an engine with ECU and related electrics, it's pretty much a bolt-in affair. You can still do it without the ECU, but it takes a little more fiddling (I did it this way with my blue Supra).
