... has any of youz mac users had to reconfigure your firewall (be it a hardware router or another mac/pc/linux box) to get some of these apps to do everything?
stuff like gnutella's pretty easy, just tell it to push your exsternal IP address out to the nearest ultrapeer - but other protocols are not so friendly... eDonkey & openNAP i've not had much luck with....
i'm using Brickhouse to tune/configure the NAT/firewall plus provide me with a software router - but am resorting to leaving unpriviledged (spell?) ports open above 1024 - and that's ordinary security.
it's most likely that these apps were written with a single mac user with firewall and broadband .. but i'm at home with 2 macs & a PC so i need a router/firewall - which is currently my oldest mac (G3/300 beige tower) (which also happens to be our print server and bit bucket).
also - had any luck with bittorrent and large files (e.g. disk images, DVD rips)?
