sounds a bit unlikely that the valves arent opening...

i mean, is an overhead cam engine, theres not a whole lot getting in the way of the cam opening the valve. simply taking off the cam cover and watching the cam rotate onto the valve bucket should be enought to tell you whether its working or not.

id be much more inclined to check the fuel injector - more likely its buggered/stuck/malfunctioning than no air getting in.

have you checked spark? checked the coils? checked signal to the coils?

have you pulled the plug and coil out and watched it spark to earth?

i say youve got a bloody long way to go before having to pull the head off
