I converted and AE82 from 4A-c to 4A-GE about 5 years ago.

From my vague memory, all the pipes were the same except for one little bugger at the front that went around the thermo fan, differently to how the 4A-C engine was laid out (its fans were both inside the engine bay, 4A-GE had one outside).

I would state that I do not believe you can swap the $A-C and 4A-GE without de-gassing and undoing the air cond pipes.

The R12 refridgerant that was in it will not harm you directly, unless you cop a real lungful. It is a hydrocarbon sorta like thinners etc in the sense that you don't really want it on your skin, but it will not make your arm drop off if you do get some of it on there.
