Something worth mentioning is the fact that a lot of 4 pin relays have a '87a' pin and not a '87' pin
Check to see if you have this type of relay.
the 87a pin is a Normally Closed contact. ie when you power the relay, the contacts are pulled open and obviously no current will flow.
