until you go hunting for one in japan or the US and realise how much they cost  good god they are SO expensive
$1200 on a bent-over 2jzge is a BARGAIN compared to these latest vvti v6's
plus im still not sold on the modify-potential of the direct injection, nor the cost of the vvti (which youd undoubtedly hoist)

Since when has the cost of vvti been a problem? The thing makes peak torque over a huge chunk of its rev range!
What is it about direct injection that has you frazzled? I think its a perfect option, point taken it hasn't been around long enough to be perfected, but it makes a whole lot of sense.
