Since when has the cost of vvti been a problem? The thing makes peak torque over a huge chunk of its rev range!
What is it about direct injection that has you frazzled? I think its a perfect option, point taken it hasn't been around long enough to be perfected, but it makes a whole lot of sense.
re: vvti - im just referring to when buying the engine, youre buying a late model vvti bells-and-whistles engine that the reseller can ask a fair amount of money for... and if i were to buy one of these lines of engines, i would be dumping the vvti - and thus the money spent to acquire it would be relatively wasted
re: direct injection - its a BITCH to play with these engine's compression ratios, plus no one has done any work thus far on how you should go about porting them. its very much an unknown.
either way, in traditional performance modification terms its very hard to see where to start with these engines.
