'Tis true, but it would be a folley to ignore the potential, even if it isn't properly understood (as most new technologies are initially). I was under the assumption that most direct injection engines already ran fairly high compression ratio's.
Why would you be so quick to dump the vvti, strictly speaking, why couldn't it work on a performance engine, it's very effective at what it does when working properly, so surely making it work would provide a more worthwhile result. Obviously chasing peak power they may prove a restriction (but why is that?), but surely for a real engine i.e. one that is to be used on a daily basis would benefit from having more torque and power everywhere than tuned for one spot...?
