The 'zig zag thingy' that you refer to is one of the outer boots, and they are there to keep the dust out. If you have a leak, it is more than likely one of the seals is worn and needs to be replaced by rebuilding the rack, or having a s/hand unit fitted Cheers Michael B [Report message to a moderator]
