Most cars are designed to understeer because it is safer. If the car understeers, the drivers natural reaction is to put more steering into it and brake. This transfers more weight onto the important tyre and the car has a better chance of getting around the corner.

When a car oversteers and brakes are applied, it generally hits something hard.
