I did an AE82 GT half cut swap about 6 or 7 years ago.
I'm no mechanic and the closest I came to mechanical work previously was swapping a gearbox in an old Galant rear wheel drive (basically just unbolt it and bolt on the new one).
Pulling apart the half cut (VERY methodically, labelling EVERY wire) and then pulling apart the actual car, I managed to do the whole conversion myself.
I had a mechanic mate come around and replace the clutch, cam seals and timing belt while it was all out and easy to get at.
Now with the experience of doing one full conversion (essentially EVERYTHING from the half cut was put in - dash, vent grills, everything) I would be quicker and not have to be quite so pedantic about labelling of wires as I would have an idea what goes where.
Still, at the end of the day, if you are not confident to do it yourself, thats fine. Would suggest looking at car already modified, as it is likely to work out cheaper than doing it all yourself.
Cheers.
