Persoanlly any spacer can be bad news, as more strain is put on the studs. Machined down wheel nuts is a bad idea as well because there is less thread to hold the wheel on, so higher load on each thread.

Spacers of 30mm sounds very bad. And seeing as it is to be used for track work, i guess there will be even more load than if it were just a road car.

For safety, i'd get the wheels with the correct offset right from the word go, and save yourself the possibility of BIG headaches later on.
