Stewart, Can you elaborate on how it's affected by increased dwell? No disbelieving you, just furthering my ed. As I understand, the resistor allows 8 volts to the coil (why?) but checking a 5me elec setup I have here with resistor it bypasses at startup and feeds 12v.
Best prior experience I've had is on range rovers which don't have a resistor but a resistive wire as the feed to the coil. This burns out and we just replaced the wire with std and ran a non resistive coil, elec or points.
Pls explain
