normally its the stem seals on 4AGE's that chop out - i've seen plenty of 4AGE's pulled down now and, the bores are pristine - no issues there (can still see hone marks on some of em)
good chance your oil consumption issues are stem seals, maybe go to a wrecker and get a spare head, get it recoed so you can swap it over in a weekend? also remember VRS kit too (speak to meridian motorsport they have these for all 4AGE's)
as far as oil goes, that magnatec stuff is good (its going in my VT) but my 100kw motor will use mobil 1.
