so your car has an LSD? a T-Seris diff housing?
does it have drum rear brakes or disc?
regardless of that, if i owned an aus spec ae86 the things i would do (in order, regardless of budget and looks)
1. suspension. (this is a must for any ae86)
front shortstroke coilovers with nice tough lower springs, somewhere between 5-6kg/mm. pillow ball strut tops with adjustable camber plates. tougher front swaybars with roll center adjusters to fix the geometry angles of the front now that its been lowered. rear short stroke struts with 4-5kg/mm springs or, if you can afford it, adjustable coilovers with the same rate srpings. also at this point change ALL the bushings in the car ($400 in parts for urethane equipment from cusco/trd). panhard rod and trailing arms are also good but not essential
2. chassis
cut and paint ALL rust and fit front and rear swaybars to reduce chassis flex. half cage if you are removing rear seat. spot weld the whole chassis if you can.
3. engine
check out the old 4A-C, by this time its surely going to be dead. 4A-GE (16v + 20v), 4A-GZE/GTE, 3S-GE/GTE, 3T-GTE, 1G-GTE, 1UZ-FE have all been done and information is around for the conversion, all depends on what you want the car for. remember a new engine changes the cars handling, and if you fit a heavier engine to adjust your suspension setup.
i would stick with a hybrid 16v 4A-GE. ae92 block with an ae86 head. re-fursbish the block and head for around 11.8:1 compression. all hardened internal components. 288 degree cams with a little more lift. around 8-9. motec m880 ecu and AE111 quad throttles with an RS HAMADA adaptor plate and flutes. at this point also fit a thermofan with a new SARD thermostat (doesnt take as long to come to operating temp). You may as well fit a new clutch do. the type you fit depends on the power application
4. brakes + drivetrain
this means a new t-series diff housing and rear disc brakes. it also means about 1500 in a willwood 'big brake' kit from japan for the front. with the new T-Series diff, you will get an OEM 1-way LSD, upgrade this to a Cusco, Kaaz or TRD 2 Way LSD (around $1200-$1500). if you kept an engine with a t50 fitted, make sure you are not destroying it with a too powerful engine. with a correct clutch and flywheel, you should be ok with any 4A engine and a T50 (provided you treat it right). also a shortshifter is good but will wear synchros quicker if your brutal with it.
5. cosmetics + interior
this is up to you. go nuts but without rice as your hurting the car with more fibreglass shit. and also, they dont make 'altezzas' for ae86's . as for interior, i would get a FRP seat, such as bride, recaro or sparco and a new steerng wheel and gearknob. also you may want to think about fitting some aftermnarket gauges, helps to not blow your new $10000 engine and if you running a high rpm NA engine, you will need a new tacho as he stock item only goes to 8000rpm.
happy modifying!
