It does appear that somebody tried to break into my car recently though as my once pristine door lock looks like somebody tried to jam a screwdriver in it

i've had that happen with my passenger door.
the key barrel thingo for the lock has been snapped off its bracket(and currently resides IN the door  )
i've also hassles with people closing my doors via windows(i'm relaly worried one WILL snap one day :S )
Door into the gutter, or pole, or other car...really shits me
not too concerend about people scratching the paint as its looking at a respray in the next year or so...it does get on my nerves though
