There are quite a few changes between the ST185 (2nd gen) and ST205 (3rd gen) motors, the 3rd gen uses a different turbo (CT20B), more boost, lower compression, different cams, larger throttle body, bigger injectors, different intercooler, ummm thats all i can remember at this stage.... i think the gearbox ratios are different as well....
The 3rd gen would be the better motor, making more power, being stronger, and a better starting point for more power 
But they are harder to find and more expensive.... if u do find any 3rd gen (pref MR2) half cuts lemme know!!
