Anyone who's got a 3S-FE manual Camry usually doesn't know how to use it. There's this impression that they "Mum's and Grandma's cars". That's funny they've the same engine family as Celicas!!! Anyway the 3S-FE is very common. And both compatible with auto and manual. (My brother has an auto and i have a manual - big difference. A manual Camry used effectively can make any "P plate Commodore driver at the lights look stupid - trust me i'm that person!) Personally i was going to turbo my Camry, however, ive had opinions on it and they say u r better off 3S-GE/GTE-ing it because the cost is almost the same. A good thing about the 3S-FE's are that with regular servicing they can last, i've know up to 3500000klms, before reconditioning. But as for your cousin's i'd say that motor would cost a lot to fix up! Give that mechanic hell!!! You might have to get a another 3S-FE and YES 3S-GE's do fit, but for even more compatibility i'd use a Celica/Supra gearbox of that model engine.
