hey ya, I forget what the fuel gauge looks like in a RA40 but I'm pretty sure it's cirular, therefore I would go for a replacement gauge, something like VDO, Pricol, or Autometer. If that doesn't work it's time to rip the fuel tank out and check the sender, easy fix is a wrecker run for this one. otherwise if the gauge is in the main center with all the others, as I sead I can't remember, you best be going with out a car for a while, while you give the instument cluster to a buisness that specialises in fixing them I know of a good place up here in Brisbane, But I'm sure you'll be able to find one around you.
