ok, i can rule out the clogged air filter, the misadjusted carburettor because i dont have one, and im fairly confident its not the headgasket because the car runs fine when i accelerate normally. the timing belt shouldnt be worn because i had that all checked out and i wouldnt think it was the fuel pump either because it performs well otherwise. as for the vacuum leakage, the leaking EGR valve and the camshaft lobes, those could all be possible, ill add that to my list of things to check/ replace.
thanks very much for the info
