how shitty?? to be honest i'd only bother with HPC coating for a set of new pipes, so the inside is coated as well... just coating the outside is less than half as good.
aiui, it's not the best idea to coat if they have started corroding already.
powder coat is usually a polymer? UHT paint will flake off with the vibration and temp (my extractors flaked off for the first 3 feet... but they do get a workout) paint will do nothing for temp, but might temporarily make them look better...
if you really like the design, save up a few $$ and get it replica'd, and then get them HPC'd....
failing that, maybe stick some 'thermal wrap' on them in the meantime.. until they corrode thru, and then get them copied... for $90, i wouldn't be too worried how long they lasted. think of it as an investment in the design which you can use later
