May I correct you 
A crank driven blower DOES need a blow off valve if the throttle(s) are after the blower! Much more so than a turbo - as the compressor is driven by the huge mechanical force of the engine/weight of the car, when the throttle is shut against outlet of the blower, then a gawdawful amount of pressure will build up, and something has to go - be it the throttle bending, the hoses blowing off, whatever. However, if the throttle is BEFORE the blower (as it is on a GZE) then the air supply to the blower is cut off as soon as you take your foot off, therefore no air can be blown off to make funny noises no matter how hard you try. I remember trying to explain this to a coupla guys who had fitted this hideously expensive (and very shiny, and colourful...) blow off valve to some other guys AE92 with a 4AGZE, and they kept yelling at each other about why it wouldn't work. Some people just can't be told though, no matter HOW you explain something
