I just know a mate that has a brand new VY SS Ute and he got it in that purple colour and a few weeks after he had it a cat scratched his bonnet so he got out cut and polish and it went a queer colour so he took it back to Holden and turns out the car was that green colour once and then something happened to it in the factory and they resprayed the entire car (must have pulled it appart or was never together in the factory in the 1st place) and painted over the green with purple!! He was really shitty and they wouldn't refund the car and said they will just paint it purple again!
Wonder if some of these cars are horror stories like that?

Hate to break it to you, but that would NEVER happen. They do not paint bodies in two different colours, for a whole host of reasons.
I don't car what your mate said he was told, but it is not true. 
Take it from me, I work here as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer. The paint job is average, but they don't do that shit. 
As to cars coming back, many of them may be stock orders that are distributed from a central place in Melb, and if a customer wants a particular car spec, it may have to com back from over the border. The main distribution point to the dealers is from the Syd/Melb area as that is where most of them are sold (as well as the imports coming in).
The cars coming back would not be for rectifications at the factory.
