New cams aren't so hard to find they just aren't cheap. The TVIS restricts the manifold near the port, but it doesn't actually restrict the port itself (take the intake apart one day if you want to see). There's lots to consider in regards to the first gen 3S-GEs somewhat primitive intake...the throttle area isn't so big, the ports aren't very streetable, whereas the cam is very mild etc etc it all doesn't really match up particularly well. Gen 2 and Gen 3 etc 3S-GEs are far better by design obviously. Half of that though is in the better ECU (first gen ecu is a piece of shit, trust me) and has nothing to do with better port design and intake manifold design - (edit) but don't get me wrong, the port and manifold design is still far superior on the gen 2 and 3(/edit) If you grab an Autronic/motec/wolf/whatever ECU and stick it on a first gen 3S-GE you'd be surprised how close you'll get to gen 2 figures straight away - if you install most of it yourself and get the autronic self tune you can pretty much get gen 2 figures for the same cost as sticking a gen 2 is (it's just more work) Of course, it's still better (and more cost effective) to grab a gen 2 or 3 and then modify those [Updated on: Wed, 10 March 2004 01:30] [Report message to a moderator]
