i will briefly touch on this as it's been covered before. 1st you need to research into aus spec sprinters and JDM levins/truenos and their differences...this will help you determine whether to import or build up your own car
if you want the car for drift you want to make sure you get an lsd & discs...you'll find most aus spec sprinters have an S series open spinner & drum setup. ideally a T series (JDM) rear is the go but you're looking at around 2k to get that sorted. You can always chop a hilux(f series i think) or r31 diff. it is possible to retain the s series setup but you'll find you'll go through them quickly
as for price...an aus spec with minimal suspension upgrades & 4age would cost around 5-6k (fwiw aus spec suspension sucks)
here's a link to a few cars for sale atm...give you an idea of what your money is worth.

keep an eye out in the for sale section of toymods also to give you a better idea of prices.
you've basically got 3 options...either import a levin and get the 4age, t series rear & some suspension for around 10k, build up an aus spec sprinter and prolly spend about the same amount or buy someones completed project
coilovers wont be a problem...checkout www.whiteline.com.aufor other suspension gear prices

then i seriously suggest you think hard about buying a sprinter for drift. Big $$$ to setup & they arent cheap cars to maintain...you're better off getting an ae71 rolla and doing the same mods
toymods tech articles & google is your friend
www.billzilla.org <--- also packed with heaps of useful ae86 info
