HEI = high energy ignition.
Isn't your motor completely standard apart from some headers/exhaust and the wretched Holley?
The EFI system really will be able to cope with the minimal improvement in airflow afforded by the exhaust.
You buy a full EFI system off a 5ME. If you look around, loom ECU, dizzy and intake manifold will set you back $150. MX62 Cressidas are currently the wreckers pet hate. Get your drop tank modified to take an MA70 in tank EFI pump.
Sell that POS Holley and Carter low pressure fuel pump to fund your upgrade. This way you will have setup your fuel system for when you do decide to do a conversion and you will have a perfectly reliable EFI setup that you never have to tinker with again. You'll also learn all about EFI with the most basic EFI system, and come to realise how much even this basic EFI system shits on carbs.
As an aside, I'm not sure why you got a Carter fuel pump. My standard mechanical 4M fuel pump pumps enough fuel at 7 psi to fill 3 fuel bowls at full throttle. In fact, I had to adjust the fuel pressure down so I didn't overwhelm the needle and seats in the SUs.
