If the car is running the factory ECU - there is a pinout which notifies you that the SC clutch is engaged and boosting.
This is usually done via an LED on the factory instrument cluster, but there is nothing stopping you hooking up a multimeter to that output and seeing if there is any change in the state of that pin (from memory, this is an open collector - meaning that it will go to earth when it is giving an output).

As far as hooking up a switch to manually engage/disengage the clutch - this is usually a bad idea. An old member did this on his 4a-gze and ended up rooting the clutch rather quickly from engaging the clutch while accelerating (for a nice little "kick"). Personally i dont think there is any need for a manual switch.
If you have an aftermarket ECU.. then i dont know what else you can do other than find the wire in the engine bay for the SC clutch and similarly monitor its state whilst driving.
