Although I wouldn't trust a mechanic as far as I could throw them... I'd say your timing is probably right and that you've actually maxed out the air flow readings (ie. boost cut).

Say you were running a boost setting that was just short of the boost cut, your timing WAS retarded 5 degrees. When the timing was advanced 5 degrees to the correct position, the engine would most likely perform it's job better and would most likely flow a smidge more air in the process. Hence, boost cut.

Turn the boost down a touch and it will stop happening. Alternatively bridging TE1 and E1 (I think, been a while since I've had a dirty old 7M) to read the fault codes should hopefully prove it to be boost cut Smile
