now, while my fist instinct is to scream at you to do a search, you sound like you actually have a realistic idea of what this will cost, so I'll be nice Smile

btw - is $8k with you doing the work, or are you going to hand it over to a workshop and tell them what you want?

3t-gte will be a nice easy fit. They're also quite cheap, tho becoming slightly rare now (as are parts) as they are getting a bit long in the tooth. Expect to do a full rebuild on it first (due to age), and when you do that you might want to consider forgies, definitly an intercooler, then if you want to throw more money at it, a better turbo, bit of porting, and an aftermarket computer can net you upwards of 200rwkw!!

4a-gz(t)e is nice, but you'd have to go through the hassles of converting it to rwd, fabbing up engine mounts.... by the time you do all that, the money would most likely have been better spent fixing up a 3t-gte

3s-gte - well, it's the ultimate toyota 4 cylinder. To get it in there would require a fair bit of fabbing (as it's designed for a transverse mount, not a longitudinal one)... if you're paying someone else, it's not within your $8k budget. even if you do it yourself, it will take a fair while, and you'd have to be aware of the time required to do it.

forget about any inline-6 engine. the ta22 has a cute little engine bay, and a fat 1j/2j/7m will *not* fit in there without pretty serious mods, and not without passing your $8k budget and also ruining the handling of the car.

of course, everything depends on how much power you want. 100rwkw? 150? 200? more?
