i would have to say that the clearance between the pistons and valves is very small...most likley something like .050 or so (just a guess) and any cam wilder than stock would cause it to hit...I just looked at where the tensioner came from, it seems that one of the bolts has removed itself, causing the other to load up....which led to it shearing off....lucky there's plenty left to remove with some vice grips 
Oh and i did replace the belt when i got the cut (about 2000km old) =\
Should i replace it again? And also, what parts am i likley to have lost apart from the tensioner?
