The occaisional print, an inkjet is fine. But you need to use them every now and then as the ink will dry up. I don't think lasers have this prob, give the catridge a shake and all is good. Colour lasers are generally pretty expensive, especially decent ones. But if you do a lot of printing and want quality, these are the go. If only needing black and white, and you do a lot of printing, a laser is definately the go, but unsure of what sort of quality you would get for $450. We have a couple of Lexmark's at work, 4 years old and do a fair bit of printing (i work at a school), they are still printing like new. Of course they were about $1500 or something like that to initially purchase. As for drum replacement requirements i think it would differ from manufacturer to manufacturer, but definately not every toner cartridge. More likely to be after 50,000 or 100,000 (may even be more) pages, also depending on the printer quality. I'd also be a bit dubious of a re-conditioned printer, but thats just a personal opinion. At least find out what has been replaced in the reconditioning process. Generally parts in that process will outway the resale value. I wouldn't take this info as gospel, i'm just going off the top of my head. All in all, i'd find a few printers in your price range that you like and look up the information on the web and compare.
