Yeah all turbos should have shaft play (just a little bit). Also you might want to check what condition the fins are in, if they are damaged on the outer, that will tell you if the shaft has to much play. Also check to see what the oil in the oil return and feed is like, remember thats wat goes through the turbo, and if it has a water feed, check that it does not have any blue shit in the fitting inside the chra, this generally means that the turbo has a knakered seal.
