 i too would love to see some pictures of the 18's on your car
BUT unfortunateley from my experience you can only go 1 inch wider than standard rims so your 18's must be 6 inches wide to be legal (in NSW anyway) and ive never seen any 18's narrower than 7 inches so unfortunateley your flaunting the law, so in my opinion do as the rest of us do. (1)Get defected (2)-swap everything back so standard (3)-pass the defect (4)-put the illegal stuff back on 
although there is a loophole i think(dont quote me) they calculate it from the hubs used so if you have hubs from a car that had 6 inch or wider rims you would be fine
