i've been using 2 hard drive magnets for a while...

it definitely does trap small metal particles in there, thats for sure..
i cut open the first filter i used the magnets with.. kinda scary too! all that metal in there... Rolling Eyes

anyways, it does work.. small magnets spread out i think would be better.. you can get good strong ones from
http://www.magneticforce.com.au/

maybe $1 each for about 8mm dia x5mm, which is big enough.. stick maybe 10 around the base and then cut open filter at next change and see what happened Wink

http://www.magneticforce.com.au/neodymium.htm

they are at Mascot too...

Cya, STewart

oh, i doubt there's any performance benefit, but it might just keep oil a bit cleaner for longer and reduce wear slightly.... suuuure.. for $10, you can't really go wrong Wink it WILL trap the ferrous particles.. not any alloy of soft metal ones tho... but most metal comes from the bores i think... could be quite good for running in methinks...
