um, check your sump plug! i know some yota sump plugs i've seen have had magnets actually in the middle of the plug

and yes they are quite a good idea. i like the idea of magnets on the oil filter - i reckon thats a good idea. though depending on your motor and how old it is, might be an idea to stick with oil/filter every 5000km....
