I got my sv21 camrys exhaust done a few months ago, extractors into factory cat (which is an empty box..flows good thou) then a 2.5 inch press bent from there to the tip. One straight through resonator and a redback brand rear muffler. It was pretty cheap about $700 in total fitted I think. The headers are hi-tech brand 4-1 ($320 fitted I think) and all though they were quite cheap they appear to be well made. The car had no noticible change in fuel consumption about 9 litres to the 100K's with lots of hard driving / which is about what it got before. It is a lot louder than stock (worried me a bit a first, but I love it now.) I welded up a small simple butterfly valve in the tip of the muffler as a bit of an experiment, it is opened and closed by a door locking solenoid and a control circuit with a switch on the dash, (sounds a bit dodgey I know but cost all of 15 bucks) it actually works bloody well thou. The car is just louder than stock with it closed and all the drone at 2500RPM up steep hills in almost totally gone. with it open it has a great sound, if you are in the mood for it. It did go a bit better in a straight line with the extractors (I got them a week before the 2.5 inch cat back), With the factory cat back it had a bit more torque about 2000 and the top end seemed a bit better, no more noise at all, just a very slight sucking sound under heavy load. The 2.5 inch cat back made NO difference to performance just made it louder. I had a few drags with my mates vx commodore wagon (auto V6). With my exaust valve open he pulls away every time in every gear, with it closed we are both dead even to 120, whoever gets a better start says just in front. The reduced back pressure actually makes the car slower!!, my theory here it that the tubes in the extractors are too short, causing the exhaust pulses to only line up when they have the back pressure. Something to think about anyway. (The camry has a few other mods by the way, it wasn't always as fast as the VX). I am getting a 3sgte in it soon, already bought a GT4 halfcut. Let me know if you want the old extractors and mabye the rest of the exhaust too.
