'cause the JZA80 gearbox comes with bellhousing that mates a W5* to a JZ series block

whereas the bellhousing on the (newly installed) W5* in wilbo's 5ME cressida only mates to M series block

same gearbox, different block, different bellhousing required.

so your suspicions are kind-of correct - see below...
