good idea hiring one, when you get it before you have a go on the good stuff you want to do, get some metal of roughly the same thickness etc. and have a practice, you can play around with the wire feed, current, and gas pressure until you get a good result, then go on to the good work piece. the thickness of the metal makes a huge difference, generally it's far easier to weld thicker stuff, because you can keep the current up, without blowing holes in it. also it tends to be easiest to weld two pieces that are roughly the same thickness. anyway i guess the guy you hire it from will be full of good advise, so good luck, and if you need any help with techniques etc let us know.
