whether you can rego it or not, i have doubts that it will fit physically.
the 1UZFE is approx 700 high, 700 wide and 700 deep. run a tape measure over your engine bay and i don't think it will fit.
if you're dead set on a V8, what about the 4MVE ? it's an OHV 3.4L, all alloy hemi-style V8 used by toyota for something like 20 years in Japan, and all 5MG parts are compatible, including the pistons  EKW have them in stock for around $2200 i think. these 'should' fit, but again, a tape measure will remove all doubt. use a celica box and you're away.
otherwise, i can pretty much guarantee that a 3.9L rover V8 and a celica box will 'slot' in between the strut towers, but mounts / sumps etc may be a prob.
and if you get it rego'd, then send me a picture of your car. that way i don't get embarrassed when i line you up at the lights.
