Thanks all for the comments. We are definitely taking them the right way as after all, that's why I started the thread. I don't wish to repeat what Paul has already said or try to address every concern; I thought I might just try and round off the thread and give indication where we see things for next year. Venue: Dubbo was originally chosen some 28 years ago because it offered roughly equal traveling time between Queensland and Victoria (homes of the Celica clubs who started it all). Tamworth will be looked at but cost and availbility could be a problem. I would also be reluctant to move the event as we are now starting to get people from VIC again and shifting it further up the map may wipe them completely. Sydney venues would be too pricey for our relatively small event and it would risk turning it into something it's not; another modified car show. We don't want to lose the essence of what its all about and that's bringing Toyota enthusiasts together no matter what age you are or what sort of Toyota you have. Big car shows also tend to attract lots of dick heads! Events: Up until about 5 years ago the Nationals had show and shine, go-to-whoe and motorkhana. Both GTW and MK stopped when the insurance policies for the Qld Celica Club no longer covered these events. GTW isn't really viable as there just wouldn't be enough time to run that and the drags in one place on the same day. If we can raise the extra insurance money and find a suitable location close to town, grass events are a real possibility for the Saturday afternoon. We will look into it for next year or if it's not possible something like a navigation run/treasure hunt etc. Judging: In past years judging was done by other entrants. I always thought that was a bit dodgy so this year I did my best to ensure there was unbiased judging. The Exterior judge was a Tech Teacher who taught automotive bodywork, the Interior Judge was a local motor trimmer and yes, the engine bay judge was one of 8th sins crew. As Paul said, at the time of asking him, 8th sin wasn't going in the SNS and I didn't think about it again until that day which was too late to find another judge. While I truly don't believe anyone was disadvantaged, next year all judges will be independant. Show and Shine Location: This will definitely be held at a park close to town next year. Cars could possibly be grouped or arranged into club displays or at least set-up as original, contemporary and modified. There will generally just be more room for everyone and within easy walking distance to the shops! Categories: We will look into expanding the categories for both SNS and drags particularly for Toyota hybrids, peoples choice type awards and female motorsport trophies. We plan to have a desk set up at the SNS so people can lodge their peoples choice vote on numbered slips (so it's fair). We'll also get people to vote for other categories like Most Unusual Toyota, Blow ya Load Conversion etc. Drags: Definitely a big problem this year with dial-ins and how the day was run in general. We were under the impression it would be head to head all day so it was a bit of a suprise to us too. I know Paul has already sttarted to talk to Jason and few other Toymods guys about what the best format would be. Whatevere it is, next year everyone will know whats happening at the start of the day. Parking/Noise/Security: We'll talk to Skefco next door and ask if the trailers can be parked in their back lot. Agree there is just not enough room for car trailers at the Matilda. We'll also talk to the Matilda about keeping the bar area open to 3am on Friday night. Would be a good solution all round I think. Security will be used mainly to ensure cars are not vandalised or broken into in the early hours of the morning. We would prefer to do that first rather than doing it after something happens. I think that just about covers all the main issues but of course we'll consider all the suggestions when planning next years event. Personally, I really feel that taking everything into account Dubbo is still a good location and if we can add motorkhana/grass events it would make it a well rounded weekend.
