I'm doing this at the moment for the first time, the front ones... Havn't finished yet but so far I have needed some spring compressors to take the strut apart and spanners/socket set to remove the strut from the car. Its not that hard to do, although the top nut is a bit difficult to undo... These are for an AE86, a taxi and a truck bent my strut the other day  I was not at all happy...
