I had a similar problem, spacers are supposably safe (but i don't think legal) if the wheel nut can still do 6 turns. The other possibility is putting a small dent in the strut where the tyer goes past, pretty dodgy i know, I would only try it if the tyer is just brushing against the strut, make sure you don't dent it too much so the shockie can't come out. Or maybe if your tyers are significantly wider than the wheel you could fit thinner tyers eg 205's rather than 215's.
