  heh heh, idiots
for ANY turbo or SC motor, if the intake temps are not controlled, and the mixture either pre-ignites or detonates, then the life of the engine will be drastically reduced, and may even be measured in SECONDS!!!! 
it comes down to tuning and intake temps.
if you drive like a granny with no IC, then it might last forever, if you drive like a dickhead with the worlds biggest intercooler, it will die anyway, if you have no intercooler and drive like a dickhead, it will die sooner...
the intecooler choce is ALWAYS important..
the IC MUST be capable of cooling the intake charge 'enough' for your driving situation... simple as that... how much is 'enough' is a totally different matter.
