...well, your listed symptoms sounded like running lean (particularly the run out of fuel when you load up the engine bit)

so... was the ECU previously used on this or similar motor? you have MAP sensor plumbed in?

and is wired up as per a haltech wiring diagram for your ECU?

rich could be a number of things:
fuel pressure too high
warm up enrichment too high or temp sensor not connected
wrong injectors
timing wrong
other sensors (map or TPS) not right
...

...i'd start at basics first - is it hooked up right, are the physical things right, before progressing onto how to drive the haltech with a laptop...
