As with most of the "upper-end" Jap engines, the 206KW figure refers to the gentlemans' agreement the Japanese manufacturers have...the actual power output would be speculation and nothing more, although I'd be very suprised if it wasn't way in excess of the quoted figure. (That is, unless they've detuned it to buggery!!)
From the little I've read (and, believe me, there IS precious little to read!) they are engineered along similar lines to the 1UZ,(although they do not look alike - the 1GZ looks considerably larger!)
As for a project, I'd suggest that there would be very little here that you'd squeeze one into, although I wouldn't write it off arbitrarily.
Your biggest problems will be these:
1) You will struggle to find one. Anywhere. They only came in the '97-on Century Crown, of which there are precious few. I don't believe that there is one in Australia (but I could be wrong!)
2) You will probably be able to obtain parts (through OldMac Toyota or similar), but you will need the full model and frame numbers of the donor car - in other words, get a half-cut, if you can find one. Oh, and the parts will be VERY expensive.
It sounds like an excellent project, if your friend can make it work...
