Soarer engines do, indeed, come in front sump application. Also, the manifolds are tubular steel and, thus, are "cuttable" and weldable.
Some other points of note re: Soarer engine (Having owned a Soarer and now, the engine from one, I can comment...
They run a hydraulic fan, so often you will get the engine with a remote reservoir for the fluid.
The manifolds are tubular but are "configured" differently each side...mine had to be cut and re-shaped on RHS to clear steering input shaft, and lengthened at the flange LHS (to match up).
They normally have "V8 Quad-Cam 32" on the lead covers, whereas the Crown engines I've seen have "Toyota" there and the reference to the V8 etc on the plenum "id" plate. The Crowns also run a clutch fan...
So, in short, for what you are doing, a Soarer engine will be fine. Make sure that you ask for an engine from a UZZ30 or 31 Soarer (NOT UZZ32, as it runs a separate pump/ancillary belt arrangement for the 4WS setup, something you wont need in an MX83  )
