Don't know about the wire colors sorry.

The resistor ratings i've seen relate to voltage output. That's to say that 12v should be going in, approx 8v out to coil. hang on the other wire may be a bypass for startup giving 12v to coil at start. You could remove the resistor altogether and fot a non resistive coil, I don't know how this affects the dizzy but I've done it on more than one occasion without problems. I'd wait for a elec specialist to reply (sideshow maybe?)

You could put 12v across the resistor in the store and check the output too.
